Yesterday i ran to the local convience store for a cup of decaf and as i was driving my hands and arms seized my hands were in fists and my arms were pulled up against my chest and i couldn’t move them. Thankfully i realized i was in trouble and pulled over quickly but by the time i was on the shoulder i was unable to put my car in park and was using al my strength to keep my foot on the brake peddle. Ironically i was on the phone with my endo right before going to the store, and he told me the muscle cramping and pins and needles were all part of the graves. When i got to the hospital (again) this time via ambulance they ran blood work and told me my phosphurus levels were low and that caused the extreme cramping. The er doc said that graves can deplete your mineral levels and the diuretic i was on was not helping. This er doc was also amazed the last er doc let me go and dismissed my previous symptoms as "just part of the graves" and that my endo agreed. He referred me to a new endo but I"m not sure. Has anyone else had such an extreme situation? My arms and hands were cramped and unable to move for almost an hour. Even with muscle relaxers they were paralyized. I am so worried tis going to happen again and I don’t know what to do.
Hi there. Just went through a similar thing in May with severe muscle cramping in both my legs. I too went to the ER as I was concerned about blood clots. The cramps actually were paralyzing to where I just could not move and talk about painful. Happened any time during the day or night, but only when sitting or laying down. I was extremely hyper at that time (see my post dated 5/15). Other than my TSH level being at 0.024, my aldolase level was abnormal so off a Neurologist I go on 7/19. I have noticed that my leg and arm muscles are extremely sore still. When I walk I feel as if I have run a marathon, even when walking short distances. Thank goodness the cramping has gone away, but now my TSH is 77.83 so I am dealing with that issue.
I feel for you as I know how painful my cramps were and I pray they never come back. Keep us posted and good luck! -
