I would like to think that anytime one has chest pain that one should be evaluated by a doctor OR the ER.
I did have chest pain just before I was diagnosed, but mine turned out to only be low potassium.
Sandy, please get it checked out, and let us know!

I’ve been having this slight pain above the middle of my breast for a few days- not bad, but i’m concerned- could this be another auto-immune type inflammatory sympton or is there any danger of this being serious? I am feeling very hypo, confirmed by labs on monday, as a result of overmedicating tapizole.

    Sandy
I’ve had Grave’s for 6 years and I get chest pains on a regulary basis exactly how you’ve described them. I don’t know if they are typical but my doctor never seemed to be too concerned by them even though my grandfather died of heart attacks at the age of 41. They are very painful but have subsided a bit since i’ve gotten RAI. I hope this helps and if you find anything out keep me posted.
    Thanks

Thanks for the response. I am currently in what has been accurately described as hypo hell- after being dx w/GD in Oct. 03- not sure why yet- but saw the endo on Fri. and mentioned the pain/soreness that I have felt in my chest and he attributed this to being hypo (lots of muscle and joint pain is not uncommon). The other possibility I think is just inflammation of the sternum- first I felt it on the left(scary), but then I felt it on the right. As an anti-inflammatory (naproxen, Ibuprofen) seems to help, I am feeling less worried about this now. I have had other knds of arthritis like symptons with this lately, so it makes sense. Hope you can resolve this and not have something more to be concerned about— Take care.

    thanks for the message
i don’t think mine has to do with being hypo since i’m not yet. I got the chest pains when i was very overactive.

I have had this for a long time. Finally at 3am I drove myself to the ER and the DR. diagnosed me with Costochondritis. It is the inflamation of the cartilage that connects the sterum to the rib cage. It is very scary. My GP (no longer) had no clue. It just seems to flare up whenever. I put an ice pack on it and some Motrin and it goes away. Hopw this helps. Ellbee2

I have been having chest pain off and on lately. I have mentioned it to my endo and my PCP, but they kind of give me puzzled look, say they don’t really know why, and move on. I think they believe it is anxiety related, and don’t want to bother with it. Lately though, it has been quite uncomfortable. I have been taking some ibuprofen, but I am concerned. Wondering if it could be Grave’s related? I have been on the same dose of synthroid for over a year (got RAI in 11/01). My last visit to my endo in January my levels were “normal”. Sometimes it feels like a tight squeezing feeling, other times like someone is stabbing me with a knife. It is not localized, but seems to migrate. Am I just crazy? I am only 34, don’t smoke, don’t drink, etc.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks! Roo

see a cardiologist who is better equiped to evaluate heart problems if that’s the problem. At least you can rule it out. Half of medicine is knowing what’s not the problem.
