Hello all – I was diagnosed with GD 15 months ago. I was put on 10 mg Tap, and recently told I was "slightly hypo" and reduced to 5 mg Tap. Through diligently taking vitamins and minerals recommended in a book called Perscription for Natural Healing, I’ve managed to gain my muscle strength back, eliminate my shaking, keep most of my hair and actually improve my vision. (Go figure.) But I can not sleep through the night. I am up anywhere from 1-3 hours every night. I’ve managed to find many wonderful GD resources, and educate myself quite a bit in these wee hours, so I am making the best of the situation(it’s so nice to know you aren’t alone!), but without sleeping through the night it’s harder to get up on time and maintain a calm, rational mood throughout the day.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Also, new to this forum, I have read a few entries that do not pertain to GD in any fashion. Unfortunately this will diminish the value of the site to those of us that need it most. I would highly recommend a filter for entry review before items get posted. It may take a little longer for answers to be posted, but it is well worth it in maintaining the sites value.

Hi UofA Mom and Welcome to the board! We have a great group of people here, and more support and knowledge than I have seen on any other site.

I hope you feel free to make yourself at home here.

I’ve heard that Melatonin is a good "vitamin" to take to help with sleeping. Hope this helps. Rhonda

    Hello!

I have sleep issues, too. So I guess I’m not much help there. Oddly, since getting Graves’ my sleep seems to be better- may be my body’s way of coping with going a zillion miles an hour all day long and it just shuts down at night now.

The mods do a good job of deleting those junk posts, though it does seem like there are more than ever lately. If you look at the titles and user names of the posts you can usually determine which ones they are and just refrain from opening those. They are nonsensical or misspelled most of the time. I’m not sure at all what the trolls get by posting those things???

This is a great place, welcome!

Nancy Patterson has been addressing the situation of the unrelated and inappropriate posts since mid-June of this year. Hopefully, this issue can be resolved soon. There’s nothing more frustrating than signing on to this site for support and having to deal with the "junk". Kit

Hello – If you click on the "search this forum" box at the top of the listing of posts and do a search for "sleep", you will find quite a few posts on the subject.

There was a thread a while back called "help me sleep" that had some good info. I’m not sure if it would be faster to use the search function or to go back through all of the threads for the last few months.

    Best of luck!

What does your doctor say about your sleep patterns? Have you ever kept a "sleep log"? That would give you (and the doctor) some real numbers to work with.

It might be that some of your supplements are interfering with your sleep. Check with your doctor on these, as well. Sometimes all you need to do is take them at a different time of day; sometimes you have to stop them altogether.

Thanks for mentioning the "trolls". I will guess that you are reading the board at night, when you are awake. That seems to be the time of day they get posted. I try, and do the other moderators, to get on early in the morning before I leave for work to remove them. Then others are checking several times a day.
