I have only been taking Synthroid (100 mcg) for two weeks now, and I accidentally took my propranolol (10 mg) and omeprazole (40 mg) at the same time this morning. Normally, I take the Synthroid when I’m still laying in bed, the second I wake up, and wait 30-60 minutes until I take my other medications. For some reason this morning, I took the other pills about two minutes after I woke up, as soon as I got out bed. I guess I was ready to start my day, and just blanked for a moment. Obviously, I feel fine and no different than I did yesterday. I’m pretty sure the Synthroid hasn’t quite kicked in yet, as I still feel pretty hypo as I have for about a month and a half now.

I know we are supposed to take Synthroid on an empty stomach, but will messing up one day really make a difference? And because I’m neurotic, this will probably happen again when I’m in a rush to start my day and chug all my pills all at once. How hard do I need to slap myself on the wrists?

Hello – Hopefully, others who are taking Synthroid will chime in, but my understanding is that the real concern is taking it too close to food or supplements such as calcium/iron, since this can affect the absorption of the Synthroid. I don’t think that one day of taking everything together will be a major problem. Your pharmacist might also be a good source of information.

If you think this might be an ongoing issue, perhaps you could put the pill bottles in different locations? For example, maybe the Synthroid on your nightstand, and the other meds in the bathroom or kitchen? Just a thought…

Thanks Kimberly. I am one step ahead of you – I keep the Synthroid on my nightstand with a glass of water, and all my other pills are in the bathroom. Unfortunately that didn’t help this morning! I was just raring to go this morning, apparently.

    Good morning!
I keep my synthroid on my nightstand and keep my other meds in my daily container in the kitchen. Then I know to take those when I eat breakfast. Sometimes I think the GD just plays with our minds and thinking.
