I am 6 weeks out from bilateral strabismus surgery and struggling with recovery. I am dealing ok with the still irritated sutured eye balls. Irritation is from sutures still dissolving/absorbing. It is the remaining double vision that constantly comes and goes. I had a good result in that I can actually fuse image at times now, but it is so unreliable. I just had post op check and I need 4 diopters of vertical prism to function safely. I have a 1% torsion remaining in one eye. Which I understand brain can supposedly learn to overcome? I am now using temp prism on my reading glasses and another temp on a pair for driving only. Trying to work on fusing the rest of the time with out correction. Ok, this is a huge improvement from 25 diopters horizontal, 8 diopters vertical and 15% torsion prior to surgery. Anyone out there with recovering from strabismus surgery experience-mainly path to achieving single vision? Anyone out there had a second strabismus surgery to tweak results? Am I expecting too much too soon? Possibly, I should just go on and get ground in prisms and get on with my life for now? Double vision of any amount is seriously annoying!

I was wondering how you were doing. It is my understanding that the brain can easily fuse up to 7 diopters of torsion. I believe that because that is where I am right now. Sorry you are not yet in single vision. Have they suggested further surgery or at least told you how long to wait to get final result? Everything about this disease involves waiting for something.
