I’m sorry that you had such a horrible experience with your doctor. No one should be treated with that type of disrepect. Hopefully, the new doctor that you will see will treat you better. Good luck with your process.

    Hi Issiri,

I’m in California as well and I swear it sounds like we may have had the same Endo. I fired him after four months and found a woman Endo with a reputation of treating Graves. My health improved drastically with the changes she made. Perhaps your new doctor will have a different openion about your TSH. I hope.

How do I go about finding a doctor that specializes in Graves disease? My husband is the one that has it, but he wants someone that really knows Graves disease. His current doctor does not spealize in this area. Any help would certainly be appreciated. Thanks, Laurie Coles

    Hi Laurie,

You can look on the NGDF main page for links ~ from the main page, look under “Resources,” then “Links,” and within the links either scroll down or choose “Thyroid Related Links.” Here you will find this link as the first item:

    http://www.aace.com/resources/memsearch.php

This is a link to the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, and you can use the link to search up an endocrinologist in your area who specializes in Thyroid Dysfunction (they don’t drill down quite as far as to say Graves’). If there isn’t one particularly local to you, you can widen the mileage around your city to find one. It’s essential to have a physician you trust, and it’s worth traveling! Check Jake & Nancy’s book (Graves’ Disease: In Our Own Words) for hints on choosing a doctor that will work with you.

    Good luck!

Thank you so much for the information. Do you think that a doctor’ specializing in Thyroid Disfuntion would also be able to refer my husband to a eye doctor that specializes in Graves Disease? Thanks, Laurie

    Hi Laurie,

They might, and there’s also a link to find an eye doctor in the same section of the NGDF website.

    Happy hunting! :-)
