Thanks Wendy,
Were does one get these things. I do have a magnifier that a friend loaned me. It sits on my chest but I could never work with it .I do use it for sewing. My eyes get dried out because I forget to blink. Then when I do they burn . I do quilt it just isn’t the same as before. I have been on sick leave for a year now and sometimes find the time long depending what my eyes are doing that day. Do people actually havee jobs when there eyes are the way they are. ????? Thank you for answering my post Wendy.
LouHi Lou,
My storm hit last June. I am an Information Technology specialist and have been in the field for 22 years. I had several teams of IT people working with me to take the company I work for through their Y2K testing. I missed 3 weeks immediately because I couldn’t see to drive. I couldn’t see my hands in front of my face. I mean the double vision was so bad. If it hadn’t been for my 17 year old daughter I wouldn’t have gotten by at all.I literally held conference calls and meetings from my home with my teams. The company I work for was so great about it. They worked with me the whole way. In August I missed 2 weeks again to have my Thyroid removed. Despite all this, we successfully got through the Y2K testing and the year end roll over was uneventful.
I don’t have any magic words to make it any better, I’m sorry. But to say, “he will not give you more than you can handle”. This has been told to me several times in my life and I am a strong believer now. Looking back I don’t know how I survived, except to say I had a lot of wonderful people around me to help. I pray the same will happen for you. If I can help in any way, just let me know.
Hi, Lou.
You asked where you could obtain magnifiers, monoculars, or other low vision devices. Your ophthalmologist should be able to refer you to organizations that can help. Some of the organizations have some of the products available for people to try out. There are also mail-order catalogs that sell these products, but hands-on testing is preferable before you purchase any low vision devices. Until you try out a magnifier, for example, you won’t know whether it will work well for you.
Best wishes,
Wendy -
