    I think it all depends on how high your iodine uptake scan was. If you absorbed 90 of the iodine then a low iodine diet would not make much difference because your thyroid would absorb 90% of the radiation. The remainder will leave your system through your urine and sweat.

    If your uptake was 60% avoiding iodine before the RAI would help to make the thyroid crave more iodine and it would absorb more iodine that way. That or they give you a stronger dose to make up for the lower absorbsion.

    Jake thank you for sharing your story and the encouraging words. Its what I need right now. It is good to hear people are able to go on with life, suceed, try new things and enjoy hobbies.

    Yesterday evening I had emotions flood over me but this morning I feel better. My friend that I will be staying at for a couple of days, I have babies at home, is very supportive so that is good.

    I have one question regarding the treatment in general. Is it normal to go on a low iodine diet before the treatment? My doctor told me I did not have to but has talked about people going on such a diet sometimes. I just want the treament to be effective the first time. Anna
