Hi Sara. Glad you found this board also. I just had the RAI done March 1st and yes, it has been a roller coaster but one I dont regret since I am the one who made the decision for myself. That is all that really counts. Sounds like you’ve done some of your own research already also. This board is very kind in the fact it doesn’t “talk you out of” your decisions but gives you both sides and basically its done by people just like ourselves. We will share our own experiences but honestly, it could be different from your own because we are all different. Just remember, you are the one who needs to decide how you want to treat it. Doctors should only suggest, not say “you have to do it this way”. Mine gave me the 3 options and said he will not help in my decision and gave me a few weeks to decide.

I did choose RAI and I am still glad I did. I missed my kids terribly as I was instructed to not be around them or our family dog (who follows me everywhere). My thyroid started to shrink but its about the size it was before I went in once again DUE to ONLY the stress I’ve been enduring lately. It doesn’t mean my RAI didn’t work because it had shrunk quite a bit. I do have relief in the stress coming up after this week (i.e. husband and I are separating and unfortunately it is a great stress reliever). I fully believe mine was caused by years of stress as this has never been heard of before I had it in my family. As the moderators told me, it took years for my body to get here, it will take a while to get it back to “normal” feeling again. I have to keep reminding myself of that if I have a bad morning or day. My heart palpitations are back (and the racing heart) but, again, its stress that is causing it. I am back on my Atenolol and it has helped somewhat. My endo and I discussed just waiting it out (the stress) and waiting till my husband leaves and giving my body another month to see if the RAI will get to finally work like it was meant to work.

Well, just wanted to say welcome and the people here are absolutely WONDERFUL! Each one of us has a different experience but one goal in mind – to beat this Graves’.
    Kim
