There is some preliminary research about treating the underlying cause of
autoimmune diseases. Problem with the possible therapy is that when they
tried the treatment on mice, the treatment *caused* autoimmune diabetes –
cure one autoimmune disease and create another. Ho Hum, back to the drawing
board! Encouraging thing is that there is research going on, and there
are some candidates for genetic factors implicated in GD being identified.
But these things take time (decades?) – so maybe “GD patients – The Next Generation”
will be treated for the underlying cause and not the effects of the disease.
