I also gained most of my weight (50 pounds) in the first months, and I am also tow years on ATDs and trying for remission. I found that now that I am exercising, I do not loose the weight like I used to, probably because I had Graves for so long and it was my diet plan!
I’ve been on tapazole since Christmas eve. Started at 30 mg, down to 5 mg now. Blood tests are getting better. I feel much better, but still have my daily ups and downs. Still get more stressed out than I used to, etc. some mood issues that I never had before. Now I also have asthma to deal with (seemed to have developed it over last year)
Anyway, WEIGHT GAIN! I guess i am getting closer to hypo, but I put on almost 30 lbs. Please tell me that this will come off eventually… I started working out again about two months ago but my weight still does not come down.
Thanks for any words of inspiration….
Don’t get discouraged. I too gained weight when I started Methimazole (Tapazole). I have now been on for 2 years and have successfully lost all the weight. Once my levels were stable for a while, it was much easier to lose the weight. I had to change my whole thought process since I have never had a weight issue in my life. I had to realize that I am on the road to getting healthy again, and unfortunately weight gain can be a side effect. Just as long as I was feeling better I knew that was the most important thing. I found that cardio was the best for me…although in the beginning I had to be careful because I was on beta blockers for my rapid heart rate. A fast pace walk on the treadmill daily was all I needed…well also eating VERY healthy. I still find that when my levels go down every now and then, I put on a little weight, but as soon as I lower my dosage…it’s easy to lose. Just remember you are on the road to feeling better, stabilizing your levels and finding the right dosage for you. It takes time, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel! Good luck! Nikki
