Hi, I’m 22, I was diagnosed with GD in oct. of 04 , although It has now been a little over seven years since the symptoms began. It’s been a long, long bumpy ride for me. I just had the surgory 4 weeks ago, because I kept having problems with the meds. Methimazole was horrible , It was like having a severe flu with horrible muscle aches, headaches, fatigue, ect. and the ptu just never seemed to take care of my symptoms enough and , everytime I went back on it ,I’d get a rash that got worse each time.
My surgeon and endo (not that I’m blaming them in the least bit, they’re both awesome) were like, oh you’re young, and this and that, you’ll do great, it’s no big deal easy, easy, ect. ect. so I was thinking not a big deal. They told me the risks, but both said, oh, it really isn’t a big deal , those things are so rare, especially since you don’t have cancer, it’s so easy to get around those issues. Anyways, I could ramble on forever, but point is I ended up having a HUGE problem with my calcium levels, and oh man, I would trade my panic attacks and being a tired hermit anytime for those episodes. Luckily , it’s all finally starting to level out except it’s been hard to find the right dose of replacement hormones, too high at first, and now too low, which is completely new territory for me, I have no idea what to expect, but I feel really crappy. Anyways, I was just wondering if any of you would like to contact me and tell me your experiences, I think it would make me feel a lot better to chat with people who actually understand.(NOT many do). Thanks for your time.I had surgery a little over a year ago. It was hard for quite a while to get levels where I felt good. I was to hypo for a while very tired all the time. Then for some unknown reason my numbers did a nose dive. I was now on the borderline of hyper and I felt it. The levels then leveled off as far as they were concerned but I still felt hyper and had panic attacks quite often. I felt like I could jump out of my skin. I spoke with my Doctor and said I know my levels are “normal” but this is not normal for me. We changed my dosage and I have been fine for about 3 months now. It takes time but you will accomplish this. I did have trouble with my calcium at first but that leveled off. I am on calcium supplements daily. Hope this helps.
