    I’m glad you mentioned no long term risk with ATD’s – Not that I want to stay on them forever, but my Endo is “encouraging” me to go with RAI. But going hypo sounds awful. Thanks.

    I second the previous post. In Asia 90% of GD patients are treated w. ATDs long-term, and in Europe about 50% are.
    The benefit of ATD’s is that it gives your body a chance to go ito remission on it’s own. You can always opt for surgery or RIA, both of which are irreversible, at a later date.
    Remeber, there is not “cure” but three effective treatments. There are pros and cons to each, and as we are all individuals, we must each decide which is best for us.
    For my part, I took PTU for almost 2 1/2 years, and am now in remission. If I end up hyper again I’d choose PTU again. It took a bit of time to level off, but I found it to be an ideal choice for me.
