My blood pressure is fine. I get it checked regularly – it’s usually 115/60 or so. My blood levels are fine as well with my TSH being 3.5 last week. I’ve never had headaches before so maybe it isn’t thyroid related. I’m not sure. But thanks for the info.
Oh – I have recently had my eyes checked and nothing has changed – no signs of TED.
Thanks again.
Angie
Hi Angie,
I had really bad headaches at the onset of this disease. My thyroid was hyper and my TED was in the hot phase. I would have a hot water bottle on my head and a cold washcloth on my eyes. I didn’t know about the frozen peas for the eyes at the time. As you said, it seemed like nothing would touch it. The closet thing I had to helping was Sinutab in the yellow box. This medicine can make you drowsy and it is a decongestant like Allegra D, so it may make you feel hyper like Allegra does. I also took plain Allegra which is an anithistime (I think) during that time. I am so sorry you are having this. I felt like mine were a result of the TED. A year or so later I developed a different kind of headache and my doctor gave me Fortabs which is generic for Feorinol (sp?) . That is for migraines and it really helped. I sometimes wonder if I had had that back with the TED headaches, if it would have helped those, but for some reason I never asked my doctor about the headaches. I think asking your doctor for help is a good idea. Those headaches are awful. I hope you are better soon.I feel for you! I suffered many a headache, but didn’t have lots of dizziness with them…………how is your bloodpressure? If you have not had these headaches like these past 20days, then it is probably wise to see your doctor, but if you have been having headaches for a while along with being hyperthyroid, then it could be once you are regulated more from being hyper they might subide somewhat. When I had them alot and nothing would help except for maybe tylenol sinus, I went to a neurologist just to get his opinion. He felt due to not having many other symptoms that might follow headaches where some severe medical condition would be noted, that mine were from being hyper. As time went by and I did get a bit regulated w/being hyper some of the headaches left, but also I was diagnosed with thyroid eye disease. I felt like some of those headaches were due to that also. There was still nothing that could help them except for when I had to start prednisone (steroid) for the inflammation and swelling of the eyes, that my headaches seem to be relieved also. I am not saying though you have TED, but you might get your eyes checked. Wait and see what your doctor says, but also if you are in Walmart of someplace w/a blood pressure machine, check your pressure.
Hi…did you get any answers about your headache problem when you went to the doctor? I was diagnosed Hashi in Sept. and Graves last week…I am going on about month also with a headache every morning that I wake up. (I could probably deal with all my other problems including weakness and heart racing if I didn’t have the horrible headaches!!) Some days not as bad as others…some improvement with beta blocker and taking Fioricet for headache…also still taking more ibuprofen when I wake up as the Fioricet is expiring about that time (I take that before bed in hopes I won’t wake up with any headache…hasn’t happened yet). Saw endo for first time yesterday, he told me headache is not a symptom of Graves!! Is this true? He also told me I would not go back in to eurothyroid or hypothyroid although I thought with Hashi/Graves, you go back and forth…like a remission (??) (My FT3 is 1711…TSH <.01). So he said I should get RAI...didn't push it on me ...we did discuss other treatment options. Do I need a scan to determine how much RAI (131) to give me?
I have graves disease and TED, my headaches were so bad the only thing that would help was prednisone… I have dealt with the headaches since 2005 and been taking prednisone since, they seem to have gotten better, but they are giving me methotrexate now to get off the prednisone…
