Hello,
Just from my personal experience, just a couple months after I had RAI, my TSH skyrocketed to 100! So, yes, it certainly is possible. The purpose of the RAI is to destroy the thyroid tissue so it won’t make you so hyper, so it did what it was supposed to, but unfortunately, threw me into the extreme “hypo” state. (Too bad doctors can’t foresee this coming and prevent these extremes by giving minimal doses of thyroid hormone, like Synthroid, which most people have to be on after the RAI anyway – it’s just a waiting game). It sounds like you’re just on the beginning of your journey with Graves disease. It’s a long road ahead, so the key really is patience. Don’t expect any quick fixes, and hang in there; over time, things really truly will improve, but it may take a few years. Good luck to you!
