Mahafy,
Just wondering…do you or did you ever smoke? Did you or do you live with smokers?I too was diagnosed with asthma two weeks ago – I was diagnosed with Graves last September – and I’ve always had allergies but since I’ve had GD I’ve not been taking any medication for the allergies. I’m in the midst of changing Endo’s so my PCP ordered an echocardiogram when I complained about shortness of breath – I’m happy to say the echo looked good – that is to say the shortness of breath wasn’t due to damage to my heart – so he conducted a peak flow test in the office to check my breathing – and I flunked – big time!! He said I was suffering from asthma!! I’ve been on flovent 2X a day – with the hopes that it would cut down on some inflammation and I believe I can finally feel a difference – so hopefully we can keep this under control. It has been a tough year for allergies in New England – so we’ll see if I improve after some letup in the pollen levels. Although, I have to say – that I started feeling this way over the winter when there was no pollen around.
Thanks for the reply. I can see from the responses that others have experienced this as well. Also doing the flowvent – and it is helping but I think the dose is too small. (just for the record – I’ve never smoked and haven’t lived with a smoker for 10 years.)This as the Graves’ will take time to manage.
As all Graves’ patients can surely appreciate, getting the right diagnosis is the first step! Well -really it’s the second step – -finding the right doc is the first step.
Thanks for all the replies. Wishing better health and easier days for all.

Re. the question – did I ever smoke or did I live with someone who did – yes I did smoke for probably too many years – but haven’t in a lot of years either. My husband has not smoked for 3 1/2 years now. I am very bothered by cigarette smoke now.
My 12 year old was diagnosed with Graves 3 years ago. Now she has exercised induced asthma. Anybody else deal with this. She has always been active, not necessarily a runner though. She has done volleyball, gymnastics, trampoline, and generally not the sit-down kind of child. Is there any connection between Graves and asthma? My docs say no, but… Thanks ahead of time
Is there any evidence that feeling breathless and wheezing have anything to do with Graves Disease?
I am currently taking tapazole, feeling better, have gained much weight
but am seeing a specialist to determine if I have asthma…
Cindy,
When Graves’ reves up our systems it can through our whole body out of whack. I had asthma as a kid and no problems as an adult. When my Graves’ kicked in my asthma came back and I had to use inhailers. Once my levels went back to normal no more asthma symptoms. I have been asthma free for alomst 7 years now.
Let them check and treat you if needed. It may get better once you are treated and life gets back to normal.
It will get back to normal. You have to know that.
I have Graves’ and life is good.
