Call the Pharmacy and the on-call right now! The rash can start anywhere. It can look like a bad sunburn, or be itchy bumps that spread. It is not something to watch and see. If it is the generic, they may consider chaiging the medication, but they will be doing liver profiles in the meantime. The rule of thumb is to STOP the medication immediately.
Those of you who have had a rash with the methimazole ( tapazol ); where did it start on your body, what did it look like etc.. I have started taking generic again to help me since I’ve gone really hyper three months out from RAI, on 2.5 mg only. I have been off it for a year. Never had any problems with it the other time or with PTU which I was on first. I have a red scaly and bumpy rash on the sides of my upper legs and it is somewhat itchy and spreading it seems, although it’s spreading slowly.
Went through the usual contact dermatitis questions in my head, no new soap, clothes, laundry detergent, no gardening, poison ivy exposure etc..
As my Mom always says, you’re not allergic to it until you’re allergic to it so I don’t know what to think. Haven’t called the pharmacy yet or the on-call. Don’t think it’s that urgent but am wondering if I should stop taking it.
How long did it take for the rash to go away after you stopped taking it? Did you out on creams, take antihistamines? I already take otc claritin every morning.

CALL ISSUING PHARMACY IMMEDIATELY! Could be reaction to medication, other possibility: Pretibial myxedema, according to posts here. Do search on "rash" for more info.
Anitaewmb- what happened w/the rash? You okay?
I am off the medication for now. Will contact my personal endo on Monday. I was on the methimazole again to help ease me until we find out if my RAI was successful. I will probably just suffer through instead of trying to find a solution to the methimazole problem. I did notice that this 5mg generic tablet is from a different maker than the one I was on last year. I have a feeling it may be one of the inactive ingredients that is bothering me. I may try and find out the ingredients to see if there is a big difference. There is from the brand name. I can only find one of the listings online; for the one I have now. The other manufacturer doesn’t have theirs available that way.
I am just itchy right now and bemoaning the fact that I had to try and go back on this at all. I am putting on the pounds daily and can’t exercise really yet so I will probably have to get serious about my weight watchers again. I have decided to put that off until Tuesday as Monday is my 46th birthday! Hope that is a good day.
Thanks for asking. How are you feeling now? Have you experienced any of the dumping effect yet? I read some really old posts, had to google to get them, and read that one endo explained that as each cell dies it releases hormone and I think that I am experiencing this more than most.

I bet you are right about the different inactive ingredient causing the trouble since you tolerated it well before. Are you taking a bb to help w/the symptoms? I think I feel the surges when the little buggers die off, too. I feel almost normal and then get those bad times -it feels like a switch was turned on.
Happy Birthday!!! Have a fun day!
I have a bb in the house but don’t really want to take it. I may have to since I’m off the methimazole. We’ll see. I have lived through a lot and hopefully this will be the last of the worst in a few weeks time. Glad to hear that you are well.
