    Hi all–

Just thought I’d give I quick update since I really appreciated reading the experiences everyone else had. I was dx with Grave’s disease in Sept. after I had 2 miscarriages and also had a lot of heart palpitations (pretty much all day long). I had my RAI treatment on Oct.1st. I had no problems with the treatment, and although it was difficult being apart from my 2-year-old for a week, I actually somewhat enjoyed the forced break of being home alone (relaxing with no toddler!).

Anyway, I have had no palpiations for well over a month; my heart rate is at a normal resting rate (averages around 65-70); no nausea like I was getting. I had another follow-up appt today and so far my thyroid levels are looking good–nothing is in the hypo range yet, but t4 and t3 are both within normal limits. Tsh is still less then .006, but he said that’s to be expected and will be the last thing to rise. I will continue getting labs done every 4-6 weeks, unless I feel like I’m getting symptoms of hypo, then I can get it tested earlier.

I had another medical issue going on since the RAI, which was extremely high liver enzymes. My bp meds are thought to have caused it and it is getting better since stopping the meds. THe best part is my blood pressure has been perfect in the month since I’ve stopped it! I had been on BP meds for 14+ years. My endo suspects my thyroid has been an issue for a long time and could be why my blood pressure is improved. I am so thrilled with that!

As far as weight gain (which was something I was worried about), I have lost 10 pounds by doing weight watchers and being able to exercise again.

All in all, thus far I am very happy with choosing the RAI.

Hi Pinky, thanks for the nice post! It is always so reassuring to hear the experiences of someone who is trying to make decisions about treatments. I can certainly relate to the cognitive dissonance of being away from your two year old….yet enjoying the break! Everyone survived just fine. Best wishes to you. So glad you are nearing the end, realizing that we always have Graves’.
