So very interseting reading this forum. I’m 52 and am hyperthyroid. Diagnosed with GD when I was 40 and did 2 years of Tapozole, then went normal for a few years, then went slightly hypo and took a small dose of synthetic thyroid for 2 years and now I am back to hyper. My first inclination is to say, ‘bring it on’ to RAI. I am really sick of my symptoms and am on a beta blocker to help mask my symptoms…which it does to an extent. In my small town, the wheels turn slow and I am waiting for a scan next week and then a consultation and in the meantime I have several friends and family really trying to talk me out of RAI. Words like cancer, obesity, heart problems, etc. come up and I am being encouraged to try other therapies…many of them natural and dietary. However, I am somewhat unrelable when it comes to keeping a perfect diet and am confused, Should I get RAI or shouldn’t I? I just don’t want to do his anymore and popular theory states that hypo is a lot easier to treat and maintain. I have to admit I’ll miss eating everything that I want to and not ever gaining weight. I NEED PEP TALKS from both sides. Thanks!

one more day until we go to Saint Agnes hospital for her scan and radioactive pill. it was a hard day today she was moody all day and cried almost the whole dinner. i hope that the RAI helps her. i hope that there is hope for a normal life for her. its hard to see her like this..now that i know what is wrong i want to fix it. i wish with all my heart that i could. she has a lifetime of ups and downs. i pray for strength…. <img decoding=” title=”Sad” />

I am by no means an expert- only been diagnosed since March. I do know that this disease is full of ups and downs and it’s so hard to be patient when you are in the DOWN part constantly and waiting for the UP. But I do believe (and pray for everyday) that i will have a "normal" life again.

i also know what it’s like to have a sick child – my daughter had a life-threatening lung condition and surgery when she was 3. It’s such a helpless feeling as a mom.

I’ll say a prayer for you and your daughter – for tomorrow and the future.

not going to go tomorrow to get the RAI for Jorgie Ana…they messed up in paperwork. so, the new date is Monday. Jorgie Ana was complaining about her neck hurting (she has a very large goiter) all the way to the back, through the right side. not a sore throat just hurting. is this something to worry about?? she probably complained about it four times.

It’s pretty common to have pain with a large goiter, but check with the doctor anyway. I think that unless she cannot swallow, they probably won’t be too concerned, but it’s always nice to have that reassurance that everything’s okay. They may suggest ibuprofen or some other anti-inflammatory to help her out.

After over 8 years in remission I became hyperthyroid again. My first inclination was to get RAI….and FAST. But, the wheels in my small rural town turn ever so slowly and in the one month that I waited to even get my uptake, I researched like you wouldn’t believe. The result was to go back on Tapazole and become more aware of my diet and lifestyle. I am hoping to go back into remission again and when I do, be WAY more involved with keeping a GD diet. Good luck with whatever you choose, but I encourage you to check out all sources of information. RAI just wasn’t for me.
