Linda,
I had those types of feelings when I was first on methimazole. I think my body was so screwed up with the hyper symptoms that it couldn’t keep me straight for a while. I had to lie down quite often when I was at the doctor’s office trying to figure out what was wrong. At one point was sure I was having a heart attack. You should probably let your doctor know. I didn’t take beta blockers when I was first sick. If you still have it read the insert that came with your beta blocker from the pharmacy. If you don’t have it you can call the pharmacist and talk with them about side effects. You can have other complications of Graves that are Thyroid Eye Disease and Pretibial Mxydemia. Not sure I spelled that last one right. It’s when the skin on your shins/legs changes and swells. There are posts about both of these in abundance here. You may never have either one of these though.
Hope you feel better tomorrow. Make sure you are hydrated and caffeine can make things worse right now. At least it did for me when I was like that.

The antibodies that attack the thyroid just have nothing to do after the thyroid is gone, FYI. Antibodies have a kind of "lock and key" relationship to the things they fight, and so nothing else can be affected by those specific antibodies once their target has been removed. The antibodies that cause TED (thyroid eye disease) and pretibial myxedema are related to the Graves’ thyroid antibodies, but they are different. At our last conference, they suggested that they may begin to refer to Graves’ as a "syndrome" rather than a single "disease" for just that reason.
These "spells" of yours do sound scary, and several times a day at that ~ I would make sure you call the doctor’s office and ask to have someone in authority respond immediately. It may be a good idea to get checked out, just to make sure you’re okay.
Question?
Yesterday I had one of those attacks again. You begin to get hot then you start to shake feel dizzy and nausea comes. I get really weak and have shortness of breath. I take methimzole and proprolol but I continue to have these spells and yesterday had 5 of them? HelpAlso if I have a RAI treatment what will the Graves attack after the thyroid is dead?
Should I call my doctor?
Thanks for some answers. I called the Dr’s nurse but she has not called back. I so love to read everything on this site it is so helpful.
LindaHi Linda.
I had very similar "spells" when I was first diagnosed. They are very unnerving to say the least. I’d talk to the doc to make sure, but mine decreased once my meds really kicked in.
The spells are not gone completely – when I weaned from my beta blocker in May, I had some. Now I get them when I’m overly tired, at PMS time, etc.
In my case, they did improve and I hope yours do too. there were a few nights when i thought for sure I was going to end up in the ER or worse. My poor husband kept reminding me that the doc said to be patient and let the meds work.
hope you hear back from your doc soon.
