    Hi Ruby,

I have 3.5 years gone since my RAI. 12 months after RAI, discounting the eyes, I definitely felt better physically and emotionally. Physically, I felt healthy, with no shaking or heart problems. Emotionally, I was much less liable unlike before RAI. My BMI went from 21.6 to 23.3 (in 12 months). I also didn’t exersise in that year.

PS: Noticed "for your age". Looking at the age – BMI correspondence, I went from 12th percentile to 23rd percentile for my age in that year.

I am 7 years post-RAI, and I definitely feel better now than I did before treatment. BMI is kind of irrelevant in my case, because I have been overweight since I was 8 (30 years before Graves’). Something I constantly battle, but my BMI has not changed significantly from before treatment.

I have a 2 part question for anyone who has had RAI or surgery to remove their thyroid and has at least 12 months of healing / medication stabilizing behind them.

Not counting eye issues, do you feel better now than before your treatment both physically and emotionally and is your BMI in the healthy zone for your age?

I am 13 years post RAI. At 12 months post RAI I definitely felt worse than before treatment and my BMI was just above the top of the healthy range, though it had been quite normal before Graves’ Disease. In subsequent years I was able to take off the excess weight. I also discovered what it took for me to feel mostly okay again, though I have never felt as well as I did before Graves’ Disease. My memory and concentration are affected, but gradually I got rid of the feelings of anger and depression that were such frequent symptoms during the years when my levels fluctutated. The fatigue also abated, but returned when I got a second autoimmune disease.

What about you, genuine Ruby? How are you doing so far?

Thank you Elf, Ski and DianneW for your replies. Also, I am "Hopeful" and trying to remain "positive and calm" , DianneW, thanks for asking.

I think I may have asked my question the wrong group of people. I expected more responses. How can one know if RAI is the "answer" if there are not an appropriate balance of success stories?

Because WHY WOULD success stories be hanging around here?

I myself don’t know sometimes why I’m visiting Graves’ boards LOL. I feel pretty healthy, in fact, I need to go to my gym right now instead of sitting at the computer.

According to the Home Page of NGDF this website is committed to finding the cause and a cure along with providing "public education & professional education"
For me, this means a balance of information. I cannot make an informed decision about RAI if there is not any pro and con followup information. In spite of the mockery from the previous post, I truly appreciate the "healthy "people who choose to check in and give hope to the rest of us.

Thanks and please consider this topic closed.

    Huh? Mockery?

Lots of people feel fine after RAI, and carry on with their lives, not coming to boards, – and that fact will skew your quest for answers, on these boards. That was my point. You will hear the same from our moderators, but not from actual post-RAI people, because they have no reason to be here.

Sorry you are upset, genuine ruby,

I would have responded the same way ~ people who have recovered and feel well do not come to bulletin boards for support. I’m sure no one meant to be flippant. While our goal IS to provide information and assistance, we do not have access to all Graves’ patients ~ only those who look for us and visit. In addition to that, not all members check in daily. You may find more posts appearing as time passes.

All three treatment options can bring you to health.

    Ruby,
here is a bigger hug for you .

Being sick and not knowing what to do and wanting answers right away and not getting them or not getting enough answers is hard on the brain.
Being tired and angry and asking why the hell is this happening to me and why can’t i just fix this and move on can be one of the toughest things to overcome.

Your last post screams that you are in need of support and you have come to the right place. It is true not all of us come on here often some have more time than others do. When I come on it’s usually for a few days than I am gone again until I stop in again.

When you have this going on in your life no one seems to understand what you are going through and how to help you and it makes you want to scream, cry and break someones face all in the same moment. It is ok to be positive and try to be calm but it is also ok to be angry and have a bad day. Don’t try to be superwoman if you can help it.
If you need to scream please PM me, my PM box is always open to screaming/venting and cursing is always aloud in there.

have you already done RAI and are 12months post and starting to feel bad ? (your post doesn’t say if you have done this or not that is why I am asking)
