Having soreness in the throat area after RAI is normal. If you think about it this way it may help: tissue in the body has been chemically destroyed. When there is destruction of tissue, by whatever cause, there can be inflammation of surrounding tissues.

If it truly bothers you, or lingers too long, check with your doctor. But typically the only thing to do is ride it out with the help of painkillers like Advil, etc.

    Hi-
I had RAI exactly 2 weeks ago today. It was uneventful and painless. Two days ago when I was eating lunch, deep down my throat hurt-like I scraped the inside of my esophogase (I don’t know how to spell that:) I was eating pizza and just thought I ate too big a piece and injured myself. Well it still hurts when I eat anything, even very small well chewed food. I am recognizing that it hurts most right by my thyroid area. Could this be a result of the RAI? Is that normal? Will it go away? Should I be worried-is it dangerous?

    Thanks
