Also this may make a difference but the pills I took before bed I didn’t eat anything with and all the other doses I did. Maybe my stomach had pain because I didn’t eat when I took the pills. I hope so , I don’t want to have to change medication or have this medicine doing something really bad to me.

We’ve had several posts lately about abdominal aches, stomach pain, nausea ~ it’s not something that has been officially identified as a result of PTU, but I experienced something similar after RAI. It happened in the first week after RAI, and it resolved after about a week, and no one could tell me why it happened. I had to go on a liquid diet for a couple of days just to feel okay. It made me suspect that it had something to do with the rapidly lowering thyroid hormone because it happened when my levels would have been dropping most dramatically, and that would make it similar to your circumstances, even though I wasn’t taking PTU. As always, ask your doctor to be sure, but you should know at least that stomach pain isn’t usually a symptom of the more serious side effects of PTU, or a typical side effect of it at all, that I am aware of.

I just started PTU yesterday and with the first pill I felt perfectly fine and had no side effects and the second pill I took last night at 10:30 and felt perfectly fine . I woke up this morning around 4 am with a bad stomach ache . I had to get up and take another dose at 6:30 and got up and took my medicine. I stomach still feel a little bit achy but it got considerably better than how it hurt earlier this morning. Now I am wondering if it is the medicine or something I ate because I would have assumed that my stomach would have started hurting really badly again after my dose at 6:30 am. Has anyone else experience a stomach ache when first starting to take PTU? I decided that I would keep taking the PTU and see if my stomach just keeps hurting if so then I will call my doctor. I am also wondering since abdominal pain is a serious side effect what that means it is doing to me to make my stomach hurt. I tired to search the internet for why PTU would cause abdominal pain but can’t find an answer.
