March 09 is when I had RAI treatment for GD. I have been very fortunate not to to have had many of the uncomfortable complications associated w/GD. In fact, I had no idea that I was having health issues when I was first diagnosed in Feb 09, had gone in Jan for a routine physical etc. I did start noticing the fast pulse and heart rate incidence after being diagnosed, had slight TED in left eye.
At this point, I "should" have been on the hypothyroid side, more or less stabilized on thyroid hormone replacement. (my expectations were anyway ” title=”Confused” /> ) But, as many of you have experienced, my thyroid isn’t showing any signs of being hypo. My levels have continually been too high, I’m now on 12.5 daily dose of thyroid hormone replacement as of last week. I’ve been feeling lower energy levels since the change in dose, but the past few days my energy levels seem to be a bit better.
I’m feeling good, just unsettled. I’m hoping my Endo will be right, that I may be one of the few that won’t need any thyroid hormone replacement. I’m trying to remain positive, reflecting on how I actually feel, but every time I find out that I’m still too high it is like it takes the wind out of my sails, so to speak, although here lately I’m being a bit better about it since it seems to be the norm for me.
Interesting side-note: I’ve gained weight, wanted to do a 12 week program at the local Y, had to get a dr. release, found out I still need to be careful about getting my heart rate up too high. I hadn’t realized I was still considered hyper state even though my levels were still high. I guess I thought I was below the concern threshold for hyper due to treatment. So, I learned something.
Thanks for taking the time to read my update.
Hi, it is so nice when people like you who are a bit "further down the road," write in with news of how they are doing.
Thank you!
I am lost in terminology with your email. When you say your levels are HIGH, do you mean your TSH is high? Or your TSH is low? Or neither. If you are referring to you labs, to me that means you are low on thyroid, thus taking some.
If you are referring to HIGH, as being hyper, I don’t think you mean that, do you?
It seem like you really would like to do the 12 week program at the Y. I wonder if it worth re-visiting that question with your doc. Maybe he does not understand what you will be doing. If you have a normal heart rate, and run to catch a bus, you will have an increased heart rate, and I think it would be very normal, but not concerning, if you increased your heart rate with exercise=unless you have a fast resting heart rate. I hope you can take the program. Just want to be sure you and your doc are on the same page about it, so you don’t refrain from doing something you want to do without a valid reason.
maybe i am misunderstanding everything…. -
