Hi All,
I haven’t posted recently as my laptop crashed and I don’t like typing on a tablet (first world problems).
I talked to two different surgeons and have selected one. I have a surgery date of August 1st. But first, next week I see a hematologist as Von Willebrands, a mild clotting disorder, runs in our family. We don’t expect to find any serious issues but they just want to be through. My mother’s wasn’t discovered until she had a presurgical work-up in her mid-40s. We might have never known if she hadn’t needed an operation. If I do have it, they can give me something to help with clotting.
I am a little nervous but I am so looking forward to making a change and some progress toward feeling truely well again.

Hi Laurel.
Congrats on the decision regarding surgery and a surgeon……exciting, isn’t it? My surgeon is being very thorough with pre-surgical testing and I think we’re very fortunate that they are being so careful.Mine is scheduled for July 16th, (12 days but who’s counting?) and I am really, really looking forward to it. I have several health issues (some serious, some trivial) and I’m curious to see how many get resolved by having my thyroid removed. As I suffer from some of them now and try to figure out what’s causing which problem, I’m trying to tell myself that I should just get through the next 12 days and start with a clean slate on July 17th. I know it will take a few months to start to feel normal but I’m hoping that the new “normal” will be better than my old normal.
I’m feeling really anxious today (have had anxiety disorder for decades) and can’t figure out why. Don’t know if my thyroid is causing it or if I’m starting to stress over surgery…. I’m not real good at being in touch with my feelings.
In any event, I look forward to following your journey, comparing notes with you and the other TT’ers here, and to all of us finding a new and improved life.
Keep us posted, please.
SueHi all,
I will be another one to share the TT Journey. I have finally got a surgery date for 19th August. Still waiting for final ok from cardiologist, but he along with my Endo and Surgeon are working together on a pre-op course of withdrawing the blood thinners and replacing with an aspirin a day and combining this with a course of the drops to reduce the vascularity around my thyroid. I am so glad there is finally light at the end of the tunnel as it will be 2 weeks short of 2 years and 23,500 pills later since I started this journey. I am also hoping the surgery will help the TED which has gotten worse in the last couple of weeks. Wishing you both a successful surgery and recovery and will be following your stories with great interest as well as appreciating others who have taken the time to write about their surgeries and recoveries. Stay well all.
Cheers
