Alice – I think there are lots of keys to having an optimal pregnancy. It sounds like your thyroid is on-track. Be sure you are eating well, taking prenatal vits with enough folic acid. And a healthy balanced diet. As pregnancy progresses – be sure to learn the signs of preterm labor and pregnancy induced high blood pressure. And once you are 28 weeks – the kick counts are important. For now – watch for spotting, etc. I guess I am saying – if your thyroid is on-track, that is wonderful. It is also important to focus on all the other keys to healthy pregnancy. It is easy to get so focused on one thing, that we loose track of the general principles of healthy pregnancy. I guess the mother hen nurse midwife had to get on my soap box about that. It sounds like you are doing a wonderful job so far. I am holding my breath and crossing my fingers for the heartbeat. We can usually see a heartbeat on ultrasound by 6 weeks – have they looked for this yet? It is much sooner than when we can hear on the doppler. I don’t remember you saying if you had an ultrasound yet. C

    Hey,

I was still having to take high doses of meds a few months prior to falling pregnant. Then my endo asked if I wanted to gamble and come off them to see what happened then I fell pregnant which slowed it all down – however my GD was ACTIVE because I had never been able to go into remission. They would be able to tell with your bloods.

Now I am not a professional but through my experiences of pregnancy while having GD I seem to have found out alot at the clinic I attended and more recently at my appointment regarding removal of the thyroid. My endo told me that he wouldn’t be concerned if I fell pregnant after the removal – that they would just still see me at the specialised clinic for "tampering" with the thyroxine but it was by no means as high risk as if I was over-active. My sister who had a partial removal years ago didn’t have to attend any clinics with her pregnancy with twins, however, and I add this hastily as I don’t want you worrying but I will still have to attend because I had 2 miscarriages which they believe to be a result of my thyroid – overactive though not under active.

My cousin had her baby in Greece!

Like cathy said just take care of yourself. Your situation is different from mine and as I say my endo was very reassuring about pregnancy after the removal. With my last pregnancy – because of my history, I was advised not to lift, twist, over bend or over exert myself. I hardly moved! Babies are tougher than you think and the placenta is very clever in fighting off any anti-bodies in the blood.

Please don’t worry. My first scan was at 6 weeks – internal where they can see the heart beat – so yes Cathy is right. Please try not to worry and enjoy your pregnancy. BUt make sure you get lots of reassurance from your endo and midwife if you are feeling worried or unsettled.

Lots of love to you and baba!

    Alice, Congratulations!!!!!
ANY baby news is ALWAYS welcome. Scary yes to some of us, but always welcome.

The girls are right, eat right, keep hydrated, check with dr. before stretching or exercise and make sure he/she says it’s ok, don’t miss appt’s for ob or bloodwork and if you feel tired rest!

Don’t be supermom, KISS (Keep It Simple Silly) is the best quote I have ever heard. Having 4 kids myself you learn to figure things out and how to delegate things. You have a 2 1/2 yr old which will keep you on your toes but remember when you are tired, you need to rest and need to secure a room so that he/she can play and you can rest without 2 1/2 yr old running about the house. I use gates I bought at BJ"s wholesale and they are great. The older ones can get over it but my dd2 can’t lol. She will eventually learn though I’m sure.

Remember that each pregnancy is different and the 2nd ones usually come sooner and definitely faster. They call me minute mama. I labored at home and got to hospital with 2nd child 15 min’s before he was born. #3 They had me on monitor for 2mintues before I sneezed her out !!!! #4 I went to hospital 3 hours before she was born and dr. said you’re only 1cm you can go home, the nurse (awesome woman!!!) said no way I remember her she is staying! It was so funny. Those nurses ROCKED in the hospital! What am I saying….ALL nurses rock!!!!

DOn’t feel bad for calling your dr. about even the simplest things. That is what they get paid for, if you are scared or wondering about something that you feel is important then call the dr..

One thing I would suggest and it’s only because I had to do it as well, is keep a bottle of soda in your bag when you go out. I use to have these flashes when I was pregnant. It was all of a sudden that my eyes wouldn’t see anything, I would see completely black as if I were going to pass out. I never did pass out but would have to sit before I feel down from not being able to see. I got use to it starting so even in the car I would realize it was happening and pull over. It was such a scary feeling but it was never something the dr’s worried about because my levels with everything were always perfect. They blamed it on being hot outside and once I had the baby it stopped. I kept sugar on me because as long as I sat down and had a few sips I was fine. Then I would drink plenty of water. Go figure! I had never had the problem with the 1st one, but the last 3 i did with #4 being the least of the these little incidents. Just something to let you know in case it happens to you.

Also, I just wanted to share with you that on my 8 week check up I was upset that I did’nt get to hear the baby’s heartbeat. The OB never suggested that anything was wrong just said that it happens. It wasn’t until my 13th week that we were able to hear the baby’s heartbeat. Don’t panic if you dont get to hear it, the less stress you have the better.

Smiling is contagious so do it often and pass it on !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pick your fights with your 2 1/2 yr old, remember toddlers are toddlers and unless they are going to learn right then and there not to peeve you off you have plenty of time to deal with their antics and teach them well. Trying to work on it while you are pregnant if it is going to stress you out isn’t the time to start. Just keep the tot occupied with stuff and don’t fuss over the little things.

Ahhhh the joys of motherhood!!! I wish I could be pregnant once a year for the rest of my life, it was that good! Well also having big hips and not having to push really hard works too!

Ok Hopefully you are all laughing and I have done my job of the day of creating laughter on this fine Sunday morning.

    Hugs

What is the best way to prevent pregnancy after having sex? What is the best way to prevent pregnancy after having sex? Today is the 5th day after having sex with my boyfriend. Is there any medicines (asides from pills, because pills will only prevent pregnancy if you take it right after having sex) that will prevent pregnancy???

hI hYPERM, I am fine, everything is going good up to now. I am at 9th week, I had all necessary tests and were fine and my TSH now is 1.8 with T4 200 ( It is only the third week with T4 of 200. Maybe it will be more suppressed). I saw Endo today and he was happy. He said that he will see me in a month. He also asked me to do an ultrasound for my eyes. My right lid is still swallen. It is much better than before pregnancy but not completely well. So he wants to check what is happening. Baby seems to be fine. It is only 2 cm long!!!! I am also trying not to get much weight… this is really hard! Regarding the rest of graves’ symptoms, I have nothing!!!! If my eye was better, I would have forgotten the disease!!! So hurry up girls… get pregnant!! <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” /> ha ha!!! All the best to everybody!
