Hey Guys, I just wanted to post something because I do not know anyone else with Graves Disease other than me. Could anyone tell me your pregnancy stories? Looking to conceive within the next couple of years and do not know what to expect. I have had Graves for 6 years and have been taking 10mg of Methmazole since diagnosed. I have been constantly stable on my medicine with no issues. Could anyone tell me how their pregnancy went? did it cause any issues with their eyes? or other symptoms such as hair falling out, tremors??? any issues with their babies health? and lastly, did your graves disease worsen by your pregnancy? Thank you guys so much, just include as much as you can because I am so scared to conceive!!
Hello and welcome! There are several posters here who have had healthy babies while being treated for Graves’, so hopefully, they will chime in here. In the meantime, you might try a search for keywords such as "pregnant", "pregnancy", "baby", "conceive", etc. to read some of the stories that others have posted. The search box is located on the top left-hand side of the screen. Wishing you all the best!

Glad to connect with you on this site. I am 32 years old and was just diagnosed with Graves this summer, after a successful IVF twin pregnancy. We do not know why I was not able to get pregnant on my own. My thyroid levels were all normal pre-IVF. My Graves was diagnosed while we began workups for another round of IVF to try to conceive baby #3.
I had little to no symptoms and would never even have been diagnosed if we had not be TTC. In July, my MD said treatment was optional. We held off on treatment and completed a frozen embryo transfer, which resulted in a chemical pregnancy (or very early miscarriage). After that my thyroid levels were again tested and I was "subclinically hyperthyroid" meaning that although my TSH was <.01, T3 and T4 were normal. We attempted a fresh IVF cycle and again the result was a chemical pregnancy.
I am heading back to my endocrinologist this afternoon to discuss treatment options prior to trying to conceive at this time. It is helpful to hear others have had successful pregnancies with Graves. I know my endo is pushinig for surgery (RAI is not an option for me with little ones in the home). I am hoping we can proceed as long as my levels are under control with meds. Surgery seems to radical to me given I feel fine.
I am curious as to know your doctor’s thoughts about TTC while I anti-thyroid meds? Is he/she pushing for RAI or surgery for you?

I also have Graves, but opted for RAI and am now hypothyroid. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly I turned hypo and then was stable on synthetic hormone (Levoxyl). I was given the green light to conceive at 7 months post RAI. I was fortunate to get pregnant the 1st month. It took me 6 months to get pregnant with both my other children. I am almost 12 weeks pregnant and seem to be doing well. I am very nervous about my blood levels and even just posted a question here myself, but I like my endo and have been diligent in seeing her regularly.
It sounds good that you have been so stable on your meds. My guess would be that you would just have to have your blood levels monitored regularly as well. I think that one of the Hyper meds are safe for pregnancy and one is not, but I don’t know which one. Good luck to you!
I am relatively new to having Grave’s Disease and am a little scared. I have had the radioactive iodine treatment and am now hypoactive. I am on medication but am still not getting to the right level I need. I need to get it fixed but am waiting to get new insurance. In the next few years I want to work on starting a family and Im not sure what to expect or do in my situation. My mom has Hashimotos which is similar but her’s developed after having children. I am lost. Is there any thing I need to worry about or do for this. Is there any precautions to be taken. Any pregnancy struggles? I need to know what Im looking at. Please help me.
