Since I was told I could go to work after rai – and basically
and I quote “not to get on top of anyone for a couple of days” and not sleep in the same room with my husband -I wonder if I could get some feedback on what other people were told.
thanksI had the RAI treatment done last Friday and today I went in so they could “test” me to see if the iodine is still pretty “hot”. Despite the fact that I had a pretty low dose the physicist said it is still pretty strong. I work in a daycare and I was advised to take 2 weeks off from work for this. Today he said it was my call whether I thought I should go back to work next week. At first he didn’t think I should then He suggested maybe just for half days. BUT I have to stay an arms length away from the kids and try to limit my time in the same room with them.
Did anyone else have the same “pretty severe” precautions? I’m just confused cause I was told it was okay for me to be around my daughter (who is 4) as long as I’m not holding and kissing and that kind of stuff. So why do I need to stay from work for so long? I feel like my coworkers are thinking I’m milking this because the usual time off time is 3 days, but since I work with kids it’s a lot longer. I’m definitely not taking advantage of this because I WANT to go back to work. I am driving myself crazy at home!
What did your doctor tell you about precaustions after the RAI?I thought the advice the radiologist gave me after my RAI seemed very lax. He just said to go about life as normal – the only caution he gave me was to not share utensils. I asked him about being around kids, and he said that was fine. He also said my husband could sleep in the same bed as me and that we should just have protected sex. This seemed way too lax for me, so I decided to not share a bed with my husband for about a week, limited my contact with kids and tried not to spend too much time with anyone for a few days. They didn’t ask me to come back for follow up. It’s funny the different advice people get from different doctors about the same stuff.
It’s funny, but I kind of wished the radiologist had asked me to take more precautions. It made it seem like the treatment was no big deal, when to me, it really was.
Actually I was told about no precautions the first time I had RAI. The man giving it to me just mentioned about not becoming pregant soon after it. My PCP had ordered it and I had it done at the hospital. The second RAI I had was under the care of a endo. Another endo in the office gave me the RAI. That office had given me a list of precautions to take. I was very shocked. About a year after I found this website and after reading the posts I was more shocked. At least my kids were older than 12.
It would probably be best since in the daycare you are working with small children who contastly need to be on you. Don’t worry about your co-workers because you are following doctors orders.
