We received an e-mail from Admin this morning that they had to remove a large number of posts in the past few days.
Many were for providing web site addresses in the body of their message. Admin will automatically block those messages. You see there is a wealth of information on the Internet regarding Graves’ disease. A full 80 % of what you see is wrong or misquoted. So when a post lists a web site it is removed for review by our medical board of advisors. If the information in the site is deemed to be accurate we ask the owner of the web site if we may list it on our links page. We NEVER list a site without the owner’s approval.
Many of the web sites posted we have already checked out and determined the material did not meet the criteria for listing on our site. Either the information was nut fully presented, or the owner of the site or article did not give us permission to list it or mention it on our site.
Some were for swearing. We do not allow cuss words on the site in any form. If they are posted it is removed. No question.
A few were because a person said they were a doctor or a lawyer. We do that for protection of both the NGDF and the person. If a medical professional or legal professional wishes to post with their professional title they need to provide a full CV to the NGDF. That way we are sure they are who they say they are and not a get your doctorate for twenty bucks on-line type doctor. Also over the course of the past seven years we had people who posted as a doctor or lawyer and wrote us and BEGGED us to remove their posts because people started to e-mail them hundreds of e-mails a day asking for help and medical or legal advice. That is where I said we are protecting the individual.
We offer support and education. We do not provide medical diagnosis. We do not interpret lab tests. We do not diagnose over the Internet. We offer support, a place to vent (no swearing) and a place for others to read and use our search engine to find posts that may answer a topic they are interested in.
We are all volunteers with jobs. We answer as we can. If we do not know the answer we will go and find it for you. Our medical board of advisors are all volunteers too. They take time out of their practice to answer us. So sometimes answers take time.
We are only a click away.

Under the drop-down menu under “Welcome to the NGDF” on the first page of the bulletin board is a topic called “Posting Rules.” I could not access it this morning to double check, but we have had a long-standing rule on this board (for at least five years or more) that NO links can be put in a post without advance permission. I assume the rule is still there, which would explain why your post was removed. Not even facilitators put links in their posts without permission in advance.
This rule is in place to protect the people who read this board from medically unproven information. There are websites that contain such bad “medical” information that it would be disastrous for someone ill with Graves’ hyperthyroidism to try their advice.
Once the link is checked, and if it is appropriate, your post will reappear.
If you were sending me the link, you can reach me via my ngdf address with a private email.
