Hey there, It’s been 4 years since I posted. Glad to see you are still out there answering questions.

I had TT a year ago, I have been on levothyroxine since. I have been doing fairly well, but still feeling a little hypo. TSH has been in the high 2’s since TT. I asked my MD to tweak my meds to see if I could get down to 1.0, but increasing dosage from 112 mcg to 125 mcg put me back into hyper. I am not enjoying revisiting those days. Her recommendation to get my out of hyper again is to go back to 112 mcg, and one day a week take an extra half tab, so 168 mcg. Her goal is to get me to a weekly average of 120 mcg, but I think this is an odd way to do it. Wouldn’t it be better to take a combination of 125 mcg and 112 mcg, such as 2 days 125 to 1 day of 112?

Hello – We’re fellow patients here, so ultimately, your doctor needs to be OK with your dosing regimen.

I’ve more commonly heard of patients alternating doses every other day when the standard doses don’t produce that “just right” effect, rather than taking one big extra dose a week. However, I would ask your doc why she is suggesting this. Perhaps she is trying to keep you from needing two different prescriptions, or maybe she thinks that a once a week adjustment would be easier to remember.

Wish I could help with an opinion but I’m very new to this…just had my TT July 16th. I’ll be following along with interest since this could be a question I will have in the near future.

My first endo, when increasing me from 100 mcg to 112 mcg, said I could do the increase to 112 or I could take 100 mcg 6 days a week and 200 mcg 1 day a week. I opted for the 112! Something about taking 200 at once seemed kind of crazy! I guess it works, but I’m sensitive to meds., and wasn’t about to try it. I did (for awhile) take 112 mcg. 6 days a week and 100 mcg 1 day a week when my TSH was 0.29. But, now that my TSH is 1.6, I’m taking 112 everyday.
