Hi all-happy New Year! I had my second appt with my new endo and he thinks that it is time to see if I can go without the Tapazole as my numbers have been stable for awhile. In October he thought that I was over medicated so cut my dose in half. I have been on the lowest dose(2.5mg) since Oct and my joints are feeling better. So maybe I will improve without any. A recent ultrasound showed a healthy thyroid.
He is not a believer in long term use as he does not think that there is enough long term data to prove the safety of this drug. If I were older, he would not be concerned( I am 57). I have been on the drug for 2 and 1/2 years now. I sure hope that this is remission!
Am a bit scared in case I slide back into hyper, but will get labs done every 2 months to monitor the situation. I hope this is the final chapter on this thyroid journey!
Cheers, and wishing good health to you all.
MaryHi Maryl – Wow, this is great news!
You might ask your doctor about antibody testing prior to withdrawing the meds. I see that you are in Canada, but the latest U.S.-based guidance recommends testing TRAb prior to withdrawal. The reason is that if antibody levels are still high when the meds are withdrawn, docs here believe that a recurrence of hyperthyroidism is more likely to occur.
Wishing you all the best – please check back and let us know how you are doing…we love to read success stories!
Hi Kimberly,
He did check the antibody level, and there were none. He is checking again and also a another test as I may be one of those who test for negative antibodies. This is rare. Anyway, it is good news so far. I am glad that I listened to my other docs who said not to do anything definative as yet. I sure hope this works! Its been quite a ride. Thanks for this forum!Fabulous news!! Giving me hope
