I know this isn’t the normal request since this is a thyroid site but I need trusted people on this and your it!

My FIL was having issues and I was finally able to get a hold of his lab work from last year and this year. I noticed that there were some discrepancies and I brought it to my dh’s attention. He and his sister looked into it and spoke to FIL about it. There was a fire and of course FIL’s health was put on hold. Finally we decided to speak to him and I said that I know he’s busy but you have to many grandkids and people who love you to not get this checked out.
So he did and the lab shows issues with Parathyroid.
He went on this site http://parathyroid.com/Dr.Norman.htm and they claim to be the only place that does what is needed. I find that to be nonsense and the site looks hokey to say the least. They say they are the only ones in the country who do this which is just not true.

I don’t know who to go to for this info, does anyone out there have any issue on the parathyroid gland? I would greatly appreciate it. Again I know it doesn’t have anything to do with the thyroid but I just don’t know who to ask about this.

We learn a little about the parathyroid, since it’s attached to the thyroid, and there can be issues after TT related to the parathyroid glands. There are four of them, they are kind of "parasitically" attached to the thyroid gland at the four "wingtips." They help to control the calcium in our bloodstream, though I’m not exactly certain of the mechanism by which they do that. When a total thyroidectomy is performed, the doctor will usually take 2 or more of the parathyroids and "stick" them somewhere else in the area, where they will perform just fine, typically. The surgeon who spoke at our last conference mentioned that while we have four of them, a person can be healthy with only one that functions. And there you have the total depth of information regarding the parathyroid in my mind-library. <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” />

Let us know how this works out for you & your family, it’s always good to have more information!

I will let you know how this all works out. I am going to call his dr’s office today for a list of Endo’s that are in his plan. Then I will research each of them and see what their specialty is.

FIL has gone too long with this problem and I’m just happy that it is being taken care of.
