Prayers coming from this corner of the world! ” title=”Very Happy” />
Remember though, HEALTH is the goal, and if ultimately RAI (or surgery) are your path to health, then that’s a reason to celebrate as well. I realize that we can get "attached" to treatment choices, which means we feel badly if they "fail" for us, but in the end we’re so fortunate to have options.
I have been battling Graves for a year now. Levels have been like a roller coaster! I had my labs tested Monday. My TSh is at 2.19 and Ft4 is 0.65. My endo has taken me off methimazole. I was taking 5 mg. every other day. I am praying that my TSH will stay in the normal range and my ft4 will go up. This is the second time he has taken my off the med.! I hope it works this time. My endo. and I both agree if I go back hyper, we will radiate my thyroid. Prayers please! ” title=”Very Happy” /> Thanks!
prknight – Sending thoughts and prayers your way! Quick question – have you had antibodies (TSI or TRab) tested recently? I know that not all doctors agree with this, but I have heard anectodally that patients do better coming off the meds if antibody levels are low…and that patients who come off of ATD therapy while antibodies are still raging are more prone to a relapse of hyperthyroidism. I wish you success on this phase of your journey!
My antibody levels were still high when I decided to go off the methimazole as I just wasn’t feeling right. Endo said I would definitely go hyper again due to antibodies and guess what! Since I have been off the meds all my numbers have moved into the normal range for the first time since diagnosis and I am officially in remission. He has now said that my antibodies must be low (hasn’t checked them again) because levels are normal and eye protrusion has diminished. Also said I don’t need to see him again and get blood checked every 6 months unless i start having symptoms again. It is a very individualized journey.
Thank you so much for your comments! Kimberly, I have not had my antibodies tested. He hasn’t mentioned that to me. I am eating healthier, exercising more, and feeling normal. Last year at this time, I felt awful! I feel like I am getting my life back. I will keep you all posted!
I can’t recall how I labelled the post, but I recently asked @ antibodies (TSI.) You might be able to find the posts.
Basically, I had the test done twice, at my request, and got it to happen because of my very good insurance. All endo/eye docs said before and after, that they were not really an indicator that meant much of anything when it came to Graves’ and TED and the duration of either. But sometimes is used to differentiate for other thyroid issues.
Here is a really good website to check out.
