My daughter has similar migraines, usually pre-menopausal. She does not have Graves’. Have you taken any med in the past that helped you? Yes, I think you should keep track of the frequency, intensity and duration, and if they continue, see a neurologist. But it sounds like you had a pretty good work-up in the past. I am guessing the nurse checked with the endo before she called you back. But you have had a ton of changes in the past three weeks. Maybe you will hear from others about this. My daughter finally found a good med, and if she takes it when she senses one might be coming on, it helps a lot. They can be very debilitating, and she always carries a pill or two with her. Maybe the neurologist can help you with this if it continues, or your endo or family practice doc.
Welcome to this club that we all do not want to join.
ShirleyGreetings~
I was diagnosed with Graves on May 2, 2011, TSH was .02, T4 was 35.
I am on Lopressor 50mg, 2x daily and Topazole 10mg, 3x daily. This past week I experienced 3 ocular migraine episodes, the first one on Tuesday mid morning, then Wednesday early evening and today mid morning. On the 19th of May, I got my period for the first time since February.
I contacted my Endo to inform him of these new symptoms and ask if they were related to Graves and or my meds. The nurse called back and said no, if they continue, I would need to see a neurologist.
I had a series of ocular migraines about 14 years ago, my ophthalmologist said that a trigger could be my hormones. I had a mri of my head which came back normal.
Has anyone else had their hormones trigger ocular migraines while in the hyper stage of Graves? I am scheduled to get my blood work in another week and see my Endo on June 14.
Thank you all for sharing your stories and advice.
~ WendyThank you for the response Shirley! My ocular migraines usually happened mid cycle but haven’t had one in over 14 years. The ones this week were more intense, each lasting about 30 minutes. I was never put on meds originally to prevent them, the didn’t continue for very long. Had a series of 3 then another set of three and were gone. I am tracking them in case I have another episode.
I was worried that the eye symptoms were the start of TED.
Thank you for welcoming me to the club, at least we are in good company and a plan of action. Things could be so much worse. Blessed to know finally why I have not been feeling well for quite some time!
Hope you and yours enjoy the holiday weekend!
