This drives me crazy. I thought it was my chair at work. Now I think it may be systematic of the GD. I know about the tingling in the fingers and the blurred double vision which makes me dizzy but this leg numbing thing is for the birds. I cannot stand it. I get up, take potassium, walk around, etc, drink tons of liquids and even lessened my coffee intake. It is irritating to say the least. Has anyone else experienced this? What have you all done about it? Thanks.
Yes, before I started methimazole, my calves, left side of my face, and arms would get numb on and off. I don’t feel it anymore though- probably because of the medicine. It is annoying (just like all the symptoms!)

I get the numbness sometimes in my face mostly but I also get it in my right leg and in my arms and hands.
Hi all – I’m not familiar with numbness as being a classic symptom of hyper or hypo. I would definitely mention this to a doctor to see if you can get some answers (and some relief). Here is some information from the Mayo Clinic:

Kimberly,
That’s interesting- I assumed it was the Graves. I haven’t experienced the numbness since starting the methimazole- kind of odd. If it comes back though, I’ll ask the doctor. Another forum (I think Daily Strength- Thyroid/ Graves issues?) had people who experienced the numbness too- especially the left side of the body- weird. I don’t usually go to that forum anymore, as I find this one more user friendly and I like everyone here. But, I had read it initially on my google searches.

thanks for the responses. I think it is connected. Before I was diagnosed, I never had numbness or circulatory problems. Who knows. I will see my doctor next week and see what she says.
I just saw on Medicinenet.com this regarding methimazole:
SIDE EFFECTS: Methimazole is generally well-tolerated with side effects occurring in 3 out of every 100 patients. The most common side effects are related to the skin and include rash, itching, hives, abnormal hair loss, and skin pigmentation. Other common side effects are swelling, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, loss of taste, joint or muscle aches, numbness and headache.
Numbness…bingo. That makes sense to me. I know everyone has different side effects. I never experienced a rash, but I had the itching for a quick bit. I have the abnormal hair loss (you have seen my post – hate this thin stuff, but it is slowly growing back thank goodness) and I do not have the loss of taste (I wish, have gained 10 pounds thanks to a now much slower metabolism due to meds).
I will see if an adjustment can be made (again) with my dosage.
