You may want to have your blood count taken. Methimazole suppresses the immune system. You are more likely to catch whatever is going around.

    Hi,

Congrats are your levels coming down with the tapazole. It is rare, but you can develop agranulocytosis (dangerously low white blood cells) at any time when taking antithyroid meds. Tell your doctor that you want a CBC with diff.

If your WBC was OK on the 4th, you *probably* just caught whatever normal bug is going around.

However, agranulocytosis is a serious complication, so it wouldn’t hurt to get your WBC checked again just to be on the safe side. If it looks like your WBC has been impacted, your doctor will have you temporarily stop or reduce your meds — which usually resolves the problem.

Yeah, it’s one extra needle stick — but at least the CBC test isn’t a fasting one! <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” />

My levels were very high but after 2 months of Tapazole they are normal.
I had blood work on March 4th, everything but liver enzymes is good. Two days ago I come down with a fever & sore throat. I was told to watch for this & call Dr. I talked to a nurse & she said you are only to be concerned about the fever at the beginning of treatment. Has anyone else had a problem & should I be concerned? Thank you
