Hi Christy – It’s possible that you just can’t tolerate either med, as that happens with some folks. However, have you tried varying whether you take the pills with or without food? When I started on Methimazole, I took a pill first thing in the morning, and it made me very sick to my stomach. Then I started taking it with a glass of milk or a banana, and that helped.
Good luck!
KimberlyFood can make all the difference — I just found that out when I started taking Prednisone, which I never had any problem with in the past.
I didn’t have any problems with the Methimazole at all … but you know, I felt so bad at the time I started taking it, I’m not sure if I would have even noticed. I spent the entire first two weeks of my treatment bed-bound … ” title=”Sad” />
Definitely call your doctor and see what’s up … could be just an initial response till you get used to it in your system. Some people cannot tolerate this medication well … I too was warned about that. Good luck … and ((Hugs!))

I am so glad that I found this website. I was diagnosed 2 weeks with GD. Once diagnosed I was immediately put on medicine (Tapazol 5 mg twice a day) which made me extremely dizzy and sick to my stomach. Last week after no luck with the Tapazol, I was switched me to another medicine (Propylthiouracil 100mg three times a day) so far I haven’t faired any better with this medication. I would love to hear your suggestions or thoughts on this because right now I feel like a crybaby who can’t handle medicines.
Hi,
My daughter was diagnosed with GD around the same time as you, however she was put on carbimazole, propanolol etc about 3 months earlier (Christmas Eve!!) as her levels were off the scale. She feels really sick too & often physically retches so the GP prescribed Cyclosine which she takes 2-3 times daily for the nausea. It seems to help some. I don’t knbow if this is a UK thing but maybe it is worth asking about an anti-emetic (not sure that’s the spelling )
Hope you get it sorted soon.
