Hi Kari – You are definitely *not* crazy! You deserve to find a doctor who will work with you to help you find the root cause of your symptoms…and get you back on the path to good health again!
It doesn’t seem like you are experiencing “classic” hypER or hypO symptoms, so there might be something else going on. Keep in mind that once we get an autoimmune disease like Graves’, we are slightly more likely to end up with a second autoimmune condition than the rest of the general population. So that might be a good place to start.
Hopefully, this new doctor will be responsive to your concerns. In the meantime, I would suggest documenting all of your symptoms and questions before the appointment…and bring your husband for backup if he is available. It’s always nice to have a second set of “ears” when we are stressed out and trying to squeeze all of our questions into a short visit with the doctor.
Best of luck…please feel free to check back with any questions. (Or stop by just to vent!)
Hi everyone, I’m Kari & new here. I am glad to finally see that other ppl are out there!
I had radio active iodine back in ’98, after having my 1st baby, I was 21. I remember my hubby & I went to the appts together & we were laughing & chatting during the whole process. We never once asked any questions. Now, I am 33 & am just learning that graves is an autoimmune disease & the different risks & long term side effects RAI has. I only had a scan thingy..(sorry, I have not a clue what it was called), about a month after RAI. My endo retired so I have been seeing my family dr for 8 years. My meds have never been right in the past 11 years, i have always been hyper, even if by only a little. He only checks my TSH then changes my meds. Until just a few days ago, I didnt know what he tested for…I just took whatever he told me to.
I cant take these things going on with me anymore. My dr doesnt give reasons, just another med..which I took w/out asking. I go see a new DR this week & I am hoping to find out why my lymph nodes have been swollen for about 2 years (dr said 1 didnt appear to be abnormal), why I have pain in my bones, the night sweats, chills, low grade fever (dr always told me when I went to appts but that is all he said), why my bloodwork was ALWAYS messed up, I have always been anemic (sp) & have had iron infusions over 10 times…..I wont list them all…LOL I am just sick of taking stuff for it, I just want to feel better without all these med & their side effects!
I feel like I am losing my mind b/c I cant get enough answers. I love my hubby, but he thinks I am nuts too. LOL
ALOT I find online have different answers to my questions. Does anyone know if meds not being right would cause all of those symptoms? I know NOTHING about graves except it made me have a ‘funky eye’.lol as my 3 kiddos call it.I have went on to have 2 more beautiful, great kids since I had RAI. Never had a prob getting preggo or with the pregnancys. I guess I have had it pretty darn good w/ not many probs, that I knew of. ;O) We never realized or was told what a big deal all of that was. We were young and dumb..LOL Hubby still doesnt think its that big of a deal I guess. He doesnt act that way when I try to tell him what I have read, just thinks I am probably blowing it out of proportion.
Now that I have written a book..LOL Any info would be AWESOME!
All I know is my TSH is 0.2 & he lowered my synthroid from 88mcg to 75mcg. Pretty sad that all I know huh. Thanks alot for anyone who even makes it through all my blabbing on here!
