I don’t go in to see my endo til Tuesday, but I had bloodwork done last Tuesday and was able to log in to try and see what my results were.
TSH .05 ref .4-4.5. The t4 & t3 weren’t up yet.
The only change this endo made was switching my meds from levo to Tirosint.
Same dosage. 100mcg.My only question is this. Are we supposed to take the thyroid meds before getting labs? I always have and none of the drs ever told me not to. Just wondering if its a true measure of where I am or if its skewed by the fact that I took my Tirosint at 6 and had labs at 8?
Thanks y’all
Diane
Hello – My endo’s office always stamps lab slips with a message to *not* take thyroid meds prior to labs…but it sounds like your doc’s office doesn’t have specific guidelines on this.
I would definitely discuss this at your next follow up. It’s probably not a big issue if you are taking the same med at the same time prior to labs. However, since you have switched over to Tirosint since your last set of labs, that’s at least worth a discussion with your doctor to see if it might have made a difference. (And let us know what you find out!)
And I have always taken my Synthroid every day, labs or no labs. I really don’t see the advantage of not taking it. But there is no harm in waiting until you have your blood draw to take it. As Kimberly says, check with your doc.
I think the most important thing is to be consistent with whatever you do.
ShirleyThanks Kimberley and Shirley.
I plan on asking my dr about that on Tuesday!!
The rest of my results are back.
Ft4 1.9 (.8-1.7)
Ft3 3.37 (2.3-4.2)Cortisol normal 13.8
D low 23
She lowered my tirosint to 88mcg.
Hopefully I won’t go hypo now!! Ugh.
One day at a time…
Diane
That’s good that she tested your Vitamin D. Did she advise you to take a supplement now that you know you’re low?
Labs done last Tuesday.
TSH .14 ref .4-4.6
FT4 1.9 ref .8-1.7Still hyper. Reduced Tirosint to 75 mcg.
Apparently my body absorbs this Tirosint very well as I’m on a lower dose of Tirosint than what I started on Levo.
Any opinion would be welcome.
Di
Hello – Since Tirosint comes in liquid form and without the dyes/fillers that other products have, the theory is that absorption should be more consistent.
Regardless of which replacement hormone you choose, though, you still have to go through the “trial and error” process of finding the right dosage that will work for you. Hopefully, you are that much closer with this latest adjustment!
