One of our former moderators, Debbie Jass, is an education specialist. She did research and wrote up a pamphlet about Graves in children. It is available from NGDF — I’m not sure with the current board set up, how to tell you where to find it specifically, but if you contact the Graves’ Foundation they can provide the pamphlet to you.

I’m currently working on a research paper for my "Child Development Psychology" class in college. I was very interested if anyone could tell me where I might find an article or accurate research on how Graves disease affects children (behavior, physically, mentally, etc.). There’s been a lot of discussion on this Board whereas parents have children with this disease and I was wondering if they’ve done any research or could provide me the correct direction?? Thanks so much.

I can only tell you how it has affected each one of my children. I have done alot of research on Neonatal Graves, but have never come across any research that has been done on it, more like things just telling you what it can cause. So I am not sure that I can help, although since I have three children born with Neonatal Graves I can give you some information on it, from the stand point of that. I can say that the link I left on here before that is pertaining to Neonatal Graves, will tell you alot, but all in medical terms. It was a great find, and honestly it is really the only thing I have found on the web that depicks the real picture of what this disease can do to a child that is born with Neonatal Graves.
If you would like you can send me a message with any questions that I may be able to answer for you. I can also point you in the direction of a great doctor that may be able to help he’s a perfessior at a University, and is a Peds Endo, that specialises in thyroid disease.

THANKS SO MUCH!! I know, as an adult, it’s a difficult disease, but since I’m in a child developmental class, I’d like to see how this relates to children and how they handle "environmental factors"!! I appreciate all the input I can receive!!
