Hi Shirley – Hopefully Jake or someone else will be able to give you some feedback on this. I remember Jake writing that after one of his surgeries (can’t recall which one), his eyes were very red…which he used to his advantage while working in a Haunted House for Halloween! <img decoding=” title=”Very Happy” /> Talk about making lemonade out of lemons.

    Definitely keep us posted!

HI, I am on post op day 3 from strabismus surgery. I did not get much information from the surgeon about post op recovery. He is a total jerk, I might add. My eyes are very red, quite a bit of swelling, and feel like I have thistles and brambles in each eye, fairly uncomfortable. I think this is from the sutures, which, given a few days, will resolve. I am glad I had this done, but sure would be reassuring (or not!) to hear from others who remember this stage in their recovery. I think it has really helped the double vision, but can’t really evaluate that until healing and recovery about 3-4 weeks from now.
I am glad I had it because the double vision is so terrible, and because I know it has been very wonderful for others who had this surgery.

I hear you! I am on my 8th day after my lid surgery, the lids still swollen, and it seems to me it’s taking longer time to heal than when I had OD !! And your strabismus surgery took place still deeper than my lid surgery… Though we dropped one my lid down a bit, which involved undercutting one lid muscle on the inside, and that eye, of course, looks worse.

We’ll get over it!! I have to attend both school and work and was wearing sunglasses at first, to cover the mess of my eyes (gawd what an ugly sight it was). Then, I couldn’t see what I was typing, the light is dimmed at work, eritromicine gel in my eyes, and yet darkened glasses. So I came across a pair of work safety glasses that are clear but have mirror coating on the outside. And they wrap around my eyes some more. So this is what I am wearing now, on my 8th day, and seems that I will be wearing them for a week more at least.

There has been yacky puss coming out of the eye that we dropped, but I think it’s a good sign, a sign of the eye fighting to heal. The puss is almost gone, thankfully.

Please keep us updated, how you are doing, I see you posted this 4 days ago on Sat.

I had a number of strabismus surgeries. The discomfort only lasted a few days. You are over the worst part, or at least should be. If you are still having the dirt in the eye feeling tomorrow call your eye doctor.

Also are you using an antibiotic eye lubrication? That will help a great deal too. Also try frozen baby peas wrapped in a thin towel or a few layers of paper towels.

I remember those days well and am glad I had them done to get an upperhand on the double vision. Let us know how you are doing in the next day or so. The red eye will last well over a week. It will go away in time. It is just blood trapped in the outer layer of your tears and lubricant.

Hi Jake! SO nice to hear from you! You are absolutely right! The feeling of having the sense of having barbed wire in my eyes has resolved almost completely, which most like means that the soluble sutures have dissolved! The significant reddness and bloodshot appearance is also resolving . I knew all this would happen, but it means so much to have the reassurance from you!
I presume I will not know the complete outcome of the surgery for about a month? After all swelling and inflammation has dissapated, and healing has happened? I do know that my double vision has resolved some even now. Although the oblique muscles are also impacted, the inferior muscles are extremely fibrosed, and it is those muscles that were moved.
SO! I am glad I proceed with the surgery, and will keep everyone posted.
    Shirley
