I only ask this because my GM is an idiot, thank God my supervisor is an angel! Does anyone know of a good link , printable, that I can give him to try to make him understand I am NOT unstable because I have a hard time controlling tears at any given moment. This makes me crazy, because I feel so out of control. They have postponed my promotion, until god knows when and if not for my severe need of my health care, I probably would have walked out. Any info you can pass along would be so greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much! Bless you all for the terrific info and support you provide.

Hi, that is a very good idea. I have been trolling articles for you trying to find the “right fit.” I am still looking for one that does not just have a list of symptoms, which is fine, but it is almost too encompassing. You don’t need one that lists decreased sex drive, for instance. What I am looking for, is a description of Graves’, but addresses how it can and does impact our lives, and is very validating. I’ll keep looking. Kimberly has time to check out resources, and she may already know of one. But I do understand what you need. And it is very reasonable to provide information so they can understand.
*If you think back to before you had Graves’, I suspect you (and all of us) did not know one thing about it, and if we knew someone who was irritable, prone to tears, anxious, sleep deprived, etc. etc, BUT that it can be treated, but it takes time. Even WE, THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE GRAVES’ did not know why our behavior changed so radically, and of course, our family members, friends and co-workers, think the same think we are thinking about ourselves-that we are losing it, going crazy, etc. etc.
I hope we find one, and soon.

Thanks Shirley! I did print out the Patient Bulletin “What’s Wrong With Me” and figured I would highlight all the things I really wanted him to take notice off. His statement, which in my opinion was WAY out of line, was a couple months ago before my diagnosis. My supervisor told me about it and said “no matter what, go to the bathroom, pinch yourself, whatever it takes, but don’t let that SOB see you cry” The guy is a serious jerk and it was this statement to my District Manager that caused my promotion to be put on hold. I think I’ll print another one for the DM :)

If you find anything you think might help, I’d truly appreciate it. Trying to cope with this is bad enough, without dealing with this kind of stress at work.

Thank you again, you are so kind.
    Hugs!

Really sorry to hear of your troubles at work. You know I can understand 100% what you are going through. Not to be a downer, but some people, even with the facts in their hands just don’t care. My director was very knowledgeble on GD, she and I discussed tx options several times. I guess business is business and jerks are jerks! Sorry I must have a bit of pent up anger today. Don’t give up though. By the way thanks for the prayers and encouragement, I will definitely keep you in my thoughts and prayers as well.

Thanks Kimberly, I’m gonna print one of those too. :)

Aww Tammy, I understand, some people are truly jerks, being kind here, could call them a few other NOT so nice things. I am fortunate that my Supervisor is the greatest and truth be known, she has much more pull with the DM than my GM does. Working retail is hard enough when you’re healthy. With the economy as it is, the company is constantly screaming for us to do MORE with less, they cut our hours and expect everyone to do the job of 3 people for a little more than minimum wage. Its nuts, but I enjoy ‘people’ for the most part and I must keep insurance. My Supervisor agreed to cut me back to 4 days a week, 6 hr shifts because I’m just not able to go the full route, between the Graves and the pain from my shoulder., until my surgery. The surgery is probably a blessing, I’ll have a couple months to rest and work on my meds and maybe feel better when I go back. :)
I sure hope you got your resume’ out to that job you were looking at and you’ll be in my prayers, it sounds perfect for you. :)
Thanks to everyone for the help!
