I’ve been on thimazole for a couple months now (I believe it’s also called methimazole). When on vacation I didn’t take it regularly but have started since being back. For about a week now I’ve had terrible anxiety and muscle pains. The pains travel around my body and only last a few seconds. Might be in my finger, then in my knee, then my chest etc. anyone ever had this from anti thyroid drugs? I read muscle/joint pain can be a side effect but this pain is so weird because it moves. Plus my anxiety has returned…it’s health anxiety so the pain is making the anxiety even worse :( going to call my endo today and see if this could be related to the medicine or my thyroid. I just want my old life back…I felt so much better 2 weeks ago

Hello and welcome – yes, definitely contact your endo with the report about these new symptoms. Hopefully, others will chime in here, but most of the cases of joint/muscle pain I’ve heard of were fairly concentrated and sustained in one area.

The anxiety should be reported as well, although if you missed some doses of the methimazole, that could definitely be a contributing factor. A dose of methimazole exits the body fairly quickly, so even missing one day of meds can have an impact.

It’s often more difficult to remember to take meds any time we are outside of our regular routine at home, so anything that you can do to provide an extra reminder is helpful – setting alarms on your phone, putting the meds by your toothbrush in one of those pill holders with days of the week, etc..

Hope that you can get some relief soon – please check back to let us know how you are doing!
