Got bloodwork back today..I’m now more hyper then I was before the RAI….I hope that means this thing is going down with a fight…but going down regardless. I’m used to fighting..so if it is a battle my thyroid wants…bring it!!!!! Hugs Rhonda

The same thing happened to me. Look for my posts about it ( ewmb) I hope that I am coming out the other side now. I went back on methimazole for a few days, got rash, am off and am still progressing forward. I even drove myself to work and a few places last week. I am going to go have blood drawn next week. I’ll let everyone know if I am on the way back up.

What are your symptoms? if they are severe, your doctor will probably put you on something to carry you over.

When the thyroid is treated with RAI, the cell walls that are storing hormone are disintegrating, and that stored hormone "floods’ your system. If the RAI didn’t do its job, you might (not necessarily, though) end up having a second dose of RAI. That is unusual, but not at all unheard of.

It might be useful to keep a record of symptoms (# of hours slept, pulse rate, etc) for your doctor. Call Monday if you aren’t settling down…or, call today. Good Luck!

I was just thinking of starting a new thread about this but here is this one! I’m only 3 weeks post, but I was feeling great- almost normal- and then there’s times (like now) that I’m nearly back at square one. I do keep track of my heart rate, so I have solid evidence of this craziness. I was wondering if it is normal to go up and down during the first couple months. The ups and downs seem quick- like I am okay for a couple hours, my pulse is almost normal, I can run- and then BAM – it all comes back. I’m sure hoping it’s just the little buggers in there frying and sending out a last ditch surge! Oh, and I notice that my throat hurts when these hyper stages are occurring, so now I also am curious if that is also related? Or allergies, maybe.

Runlacie – My endo told me that sore throat was common and is from an inflammation as the thyroid dies. It seems like it could be that it hurts when some of the cells burst and that such a thing could bring on a surg (and symptoms).
