Just a quick question. My methimazole was reduced from 10mg daily to 5mg daily a couple days ago. I had been cutting the 10mg pill in half and taking 5mg in the am and at bedtime to reduce side effects. My doc says I can do the same now that I’m on 5mg, but cutting half of the 10mg pill in half with my pill cutter gives me uneven sizes.

Would it be better to ask my Endo for the 5mg pill to cut in half or am I worrying too much about it?

    Thanks for any advice! :)

I am impressed with your cutting skills! I wasn’t even very comfortable cutting them in half to come up with 15mg (down from the original 30mg). I just called my doctors and told him I would like to switch to 5mg pills. It is SOOO much easier now. I would recommend it.

As a side note, this is my first post, so hello everyone :)

    Hi Amy,

My endo gave me a 5mg prescription from the start. Yes, the Methimazole comes in 5mg pill; if I were you, I’d ask the endo to give you a 5mg prescription. That way, you don’t need to go through splitting the 10mg in half.

    Hope this helps! :)

    Thanks, Shakira!

I’ll ask my endo on Monday for a new prescription. It’s easier than worrying about miniscule pieces of pills–lol!
