Methimazole starts to work instantly to block the production of thyroid hormone. But, unfortunately, the thyroid not only makes hormone, it stores it for future use. Until your body’s stored supply of hormone is used up, your levels of thyroid can remain high. How long it takes? It varies from one patient to the next. Then, you need to add in the fact of how long you have been hyperthyroid. Being hyperthyroid messes up a lot of different body systems. We need time AT normal levels of hormone for the body to heal. So feeling well again is a process that varies from patient to patient. I recommend that people look for “progress” rather than any absolutes, because otherwise it can become frustrating.

I do hope you are feeling better soon.
