I have a question. I’m currently taking 2.5 mg each day. Has anyone had experience with reducing a MMI dose by skipping a dose, as opposed to taking a lower amount. In other words, instead of trying to use a pill cutter to quarter a 5 mg pill into a 1 1/4 mg pill, how about just taking the 1/2 pill (2.5 mg) every other day? You get the same small amount over a period of time, just every other day instead of every day. I know I have read on this forum of some people taking a varying dose depending on the day, but I believe it was always at least a small amount each day and then a larger amount the next day. Has anyone done this and was it successful. And of course I intend to consult w/ my Endo, I’m just wondering about the technique.
I’m not sure that would work because I believe the half-life of Methimazole is rather short. Several years ago I was down to a tiny little doze and I do remember cutting the tiny pill into fourths….. you basically wet your fingertip and eat the powder and crumbs. LOL
Curious what your doc will say, but I believe mine told me to get a tiny bit every day.
SueHello – My doc has me on a regimen where I skip days instead of trying to cut a pill down into a super small amount…I would *definitely* check with your own doctor, though, as there are certainly varying opinions on this.
Oh my, I tried cutting a 10 mg pill in half and it crumbled. I can’t imagine cutting it in fourths? I totally see just licking the crumbs:)

Your local pharmacy should also have a good pill cutter.
Yes, I bought some pill cutter combined with the days of the week for pill storage at cvs. A piece of junk. I don’t want to buy another one so I’m using my nail for now.
