    hi-

I am hypoT with Graves. I just gave birth on 5/26. Right after I went back on my pre-pregnancy dose of 125. I was checked after about 8 weeks and my TSH was low (.05), so I was lowered to 112. Well it’s been 4 weeks and I was feeling some symptoms. I was not sure if it was in my head, but I felt a slight hand tremor, out of breath, and a little sweaty, so I requested more blood work.

The doctor called me and said my TSH did raise to .25, so she seemed slightly surprised by the symptoms. She told me to skip my dose for 2 days and see how symptoms are and then call her on Monday. Well of course I’m confused but when I called back she was not there.

Has anyone heard of skipping a dose? What would that do to have nothing in my system for a few days? I’m breastfeeding. Would this impact this?

I’m afraid to skip my dose tomorrow. That just seems weird.

    Hi!

I think (from talking with my endo) that it seems like doctors look at how much medicine is taken weekly as opposed to daily. I had a TT 2 months ago. I was started on 100 mcg. Synthroid. My endo. upped my meds. to 112 mcg. 2 weeks ago. He told me I could get a new prescription or take 100 mcg. Mon- Sat. and 200 mcg. on Sun. (Yikes! That sounded like too much at once to me, so I opted for the new prescription). But, I guess skipping a day or 2 is okay then? I don’t know for sure, but my endo also said that if 112 mcg. seemed to be too much, he would have me alternate 100 mcg. and 112 mcg. every other day. So, I guess what I’m saying is that you can change the dose from day to day. Not sure about going without completely…, maybe you could ask your endo. about alternating doses? Good luck! Congratulation on your baby! :)

Hello – T4 has a “half-life” of approximately seven days. So the amount that is currently in your body includes half of what you took 7 days ago, 1/4 of what you took 14 days ago, 1/8 of what you took 28 days ago, etc..

This slow build-up is why it takes a few weeks to fully see the results of any type of change (starting meds, changing dose, etc.) — so I can’t imagine you will see a *huge* difference in a day or two.

However, if you have any concerns, definitely let your doctor know.

    Take care!

My endo also told me to skip a couple of days dose, when I called her (long ago) about feeling hyper symptoms. You are not depleting your body of T4 (keep in mind Kimberly’s explanation of how it builds up), but you might be lowering it enough to see if the symptoms subside. If they do not subside, then the symptoms might be due to something else.
