Funny, I already belong to a list-serve for another support-group and I’m trying to get them to post to a bulletin-board instead. The volume of posts to the Grave’s BB is TREMENDOUS, so believe me you would quickly tire of opening E-mails. Plus some internet providers charge a fee for E-mail . Mine does’nt but some do. Another advantage of this BB is that all posts are stored here and can be accessed without storing them on files, discs, hard drives;etc….I’m running the MS explorer browser on my internet service ,so all I have to do to quickly access this BB is add it my ” favorites” folder in the title bar, two mouse clicks and I’m here. Not only is the board here but links and all kinds of info about GD as well. I can’t compliment the folks here enough, I think it’s a wonderful service.
I would love to have more info on the HyperNews free ware though, so please E-mail me or post to this board.
Stuck on the Web
CincyKidi totally agree with you about the ability to have flexibility – to be able to make choices – after all – what this BBS is all about is the sharing of information which empowers us all to make better choices in our health.
it’s just that personally, i LIKE getting email – which i watch all day – I am on a permanent T1 connection to the net (i make web sites) and i am using the web for a whole lot of things – not just this bbs. i don’t really like having to open a new browser, or leaving the site i’m on in order to see if htere are any messages. the great advantage of hypernews is that it allows you the choice. however, support-group.com would have to install the listserv and the bbs software to get it to work. i think that a lot of people would continue to just look at the bbs on the web while others like me would only use mail and come to the web site for related links.
i have no wish to diss support-group.com – whoever these guys are – and i know nothing about them / you – i thank my lucky stars that this site exists. i really appreciate it – it means a lot. it’s just that i have some ideas based on my professional experience. i’m checking in to the url of the hypermail/news program. when i get it i’ll post it here
hope no one thinks i;’m being a busy body – it’s just that i happen to agree with the idea that email is the ‘killer app’ of the internet
marysiaHi everyone. Even though i am a very new participant to this BBS, i have come to value it enormously. However, the only grouse i have is that it exists only on the web and in a slightly clunky BBS format at that. has anyone ever discussed the possibility of running it through a listserv? There is a pretty neat peice of freeware called HyperNews which allows you to mirror a listserv discussion on the web as a BBS and vice versa. I for one would really appreciate it. I would find the whole process of reading and replying to postings so much easier in email and for new people – like i was a few days ago, the web bbs would allow them to get a flavor of what the discussion is all about before committing to a listserv.
what do you all think?
