It is very possible that you have a goiter, which simply means an enlarged thyroid. This is very common at the beginning of Graves Disease and it probably will improve as you are treated.

I can remember having that feeling also. My thyroid was very enlarged then. Looking at photo’s of me then you can really see the swollen neck. This did slowly improve after my levels found their normal level.

I have been reading the postings and am thankful for the information. I now realize that I have been hyperthyroid for probably 5 years or more. I was just diagnosed with Graves and have been taking Tapazole for about 7 weeks. I am feeling fat as I am going up and down 3-5 pounds every few days. I also have this ‘lump in my throat’ feeling everyday. I have gone to doctor’s over the past years with tremors, heart palpitations, etc only to be given some lame explanation. I finally found a doctor that listened and she ran the tests. Both my mom and sister have hypothyroid so I was surprised to hear I had Graves. Now though I realize this has been my problem for a long time. I just had my thyroid ultrasound done and my doc wants to run even more blood tests next week after seeing the report. She says not to worry and ‘no rush’ on the labs, but of course I will do this first thing next week. I cannot stand the lump in my throat feeling, it is very annoying. Does this mean I may have a goiter? Swollen nodules?
